The short version
SafeRunner ICE Wallet runs entirely on your Garmin device. All emergency medical information you enter stays exclusively on the watch and on the phone paired via Garmin Connect Mobile. The app makes no network requests and transmits nothing to any server, ours or a third party's.
What data the user enters
All information shown by SafeRunner ICE Wallet is entered voluntarily by the user through Garmin Connect Mobile (Device Settings → SafeRunner ICE Wallet) and is entirely optional. You can configure:
- First and last name
- Blood type
- Height, weight and date of birth
- Codice Fiscale, NHS, SSN, BSN, or another national/health ID
- Up to two emergency contacts (ICE)
- Medications, allergies and medical conditions
- Organ donor status
- An optional value used to generate the barcode
This is sensitive personal and health information. Enter it knowingly, understanding it will be displayed on screen - including to whoever is helping you - every time the widget is opened on your watch.
Where this data is stored
All fields are saved locally through Garmin Connect IQ's standard "Properties" mechanism, directly on the Garmin device's storage. Sync between your watch and the Garmin Connect Mobile app on your phone happens over the already-encrypted Bluetooth/ANT+ channel managed by the Garmin ecosystem you've already chosen to use - SafeRunner ICE Wallet introduces no transmission channel of its own.
What the app does with this data
The app reads the saved settings and displays them on screen while the widget is in use, including local generation of a scannable barcode (QR code or Code 39, your choice) from your ID. All processing happens exclusively on-device, in real time.
What the app does NOT do
- Does not transmit any data - medical, personal, or otherwise - to external servers, ours or third parties'.
- Makes no network requests. The app never contacts the internet under any circumstance.
- Does not collect, store elsewhere, or share any information outside the Garmin device and the phone paired via Garmin Connect.
- Does not use analytics, advertising tracking, or third-party telemetry services.
- Does not require an account, login, or internet connection to function.
Visibility of data on screen
By its very nature, an ICE (In Case of Emergency) widget is designed to be readable by anyone providing assistance, not just the device owner. Anyone with physical access to your watch can open the widget and see the information you've configured, including the scannable barcode. Only configure the fields you want visible in this way.
Before selling or giving away your watch
Since all your medical and personal information is stored directly on the device, remember to reset your watch to factory settings (or clear the app's settings from Garmin Connect Mobile) before selling, gifting, or discarding it, so your data doesn't stay accessible to the next owner.
Not a medical device
SafeRunner ICE Wallet is an information display tool only. It is not a medical device and is not certified or approved by any health authority. The accuracy of the information shown depends entirely on what the user enters - the app does not verify it against any medical record. In a real emergency, always follow the instructions of qualified medical personnel and call your local emergency number.
